How do I Register My Songs With Performing Rights Organizations?
Performance royalties exist in many countries. Radio stations, streaming platforms, venues, and other places that play your music owe you royalties. Collecting them requires registration with performing rights organizations (PROs). This is free income—don’t leave it on the table.
PRO Options
In the United States, three PROs exist: ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. Each collects performance royalties when your music is played. You must register with one PRO (only one) to collect. Register when you first release music. Don’t wait. Royalties from before registration aren’t collected retroactively. Immediate registration means you don’t lose money.
Registration Details
Register as both songwriter and publisher. This ensures you get paid from both roles. Access ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC websites for registration.
